You never forget your first album—because whether you knew it or not, it was the first brand you ever chose.
The first record I ever bought was The Monkees, thanks to endless TV reruns. It was fun, catchy, and easy to like—no deep thought required. But when I bought my first two CDs—Nirvana’s In Utero and Arrested Development’s 3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days in the Life Of...—everything changed.
Suddenly, music wasn’t just something I listened to—it became a way to express who I was. Nirvana was raw and unapologetic, while Arrested Development was soulful and reflective. Both stood for something, and in their own ways, they shaped my understanding of identity and authenticity.
That’s what branding is at its core: creating something meaningful that people connect with. At nmcDesign, I help brands uncover what they truly stand for and design visuals that make their audience feel.
Your first album probably said a lot about you too—what was it, and how did it shape your story?
Here’s to music, memories, and meaningful design.
